NECCO is a local foster care agency that provides therapeutic foster care services to over 200 children in Northern Kentucky who have been unable to remain in the care of their families.
All of these children have stories. Terrible stories, some horrific that are difficult to hear but deserve to be told. Our jobs, on good days, are difficult and humbling every day.
No matter the story, no matter the details, these children love their families and, for them, the trauma of separation may be as devastating as the trauma they may have experienced if they had stayed in the home. The holidays are a difficult time for our kids; they are unable to spend time with parents and in some cases are separated from siblings, the only real support system that they have left. Each year we work very hard to make Christmas possible for our kids because every child deserves to believe in and witness the magic of Christmas.
Each year we try deliver at least four presents to each child and sadly, for many of our kids, these presents will be the first Christmas presents that they ever receive. We rely heavily on the generosity and support from our neighbors and community to provide for the needs of "our" kids. This is especially true during the holidays.
We need help. If you are looking for a way to get involved, a way to give back or an easy way to put a smile on the face of a deserving child please consider helping us make Christmas possible for our kids this year.
The way that this works is that if you are interested and able to help, you will email us at santaslilhelpers@necco.org. In the subject line, please tell us the gender/age of a child that you would like to sponsor or if you have no preference simply type "no preference" and the number presents that you would like to donate. Once we receive the email we will match you with a child and we will email you back with the child's name, age, general information and a gift that they have requested. When you receive the information from us, you shop for the requested gift (or one similar to the gift requested). The gifts will need to be received by December 7th at 8p and should be no more than $25. They can either be delivered to our office or we can schedule a date/time to pick up the items from you. The items DO NOT need to be wrapped.
