On Friday, April 28, 2017, we invite Cincinnatians to join us at 7:00 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati, 536 Linton Street, Cincinnati OH 45219, to support Ibtissam Masto, a local Syrian refugee, while enjoying delicious Syrian cuisine!

Ibtissam Masto, her husband and six children were recently resettled in Cincinnati from Lebanon, where they escaped a life of violence and terror in Syria. She is now partnering with Savoring Syria to highlight her catering business, Kan Ya Makan Atayeb Zaman here in the heart of Cincinnati. This event will treat attendees to a delicious taste of Syrian dishes native to Masto’s hometown of Jisr al-Shughoor, Syria. The ticket price for this event is $30 a person with a 20% student discount. Tickets can be purchased online at Eventbright.

Kan Ya Makan Atayeb Zaman is a culinary taste of Syrian tradition located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Chef, Ibtissam Masto freshly prepares the authentic Syrian food daily based on her own family recipes. She holds a certification in cooking from UNHCR.

The conflict in Syria has resulted in an appalling crisis for its refugees. Savoring Syria, a project that celebrates Syrians and their personal stories through the magic of food, allows those who partake in the project to enter the kitchens and hearts of those refugees.

“For Syrians in exile, food is more than a means of sustenance. It is a reminder of the rich and diverse culture being destroyed by civil war.” - Wendell Steavenson.
