A Loaded Conversation: Opening Reception - Cincinnati Event
October 13, 2017 - Cincinnati
Jennifer Edwards won Best In Show at CCAC’s annual 2016 Golden
Ticket. Her series of work looks at iconic guns with a historic lens and examines
their use in more than a dozen different categories including hunting,
military, and cinema. The intent of the exhibit is to open a broader
conversation about gun control and the 2nd Amendment. “What I’ve noticed,” says
Edwards, “is that a lack of conversation between these polarizing viewpoints
wherein nothing is accomplished.” Edwards hopes that by submitting the subject
in this soft sculpture format (crochet), the absurd effect will “disarm” the
viewer, allowing a more open conversation to occur. The presentation also
serves to highlight the craftsmanship of firearms and underscore how they have
influenced modern society. Exhibit runs October 13 " November 3.
