OMSDC Award Gala - Cincinnati Event

November 16, 2018 - West Chester

5533 Chappell Crossing Boulevard
West Chester, OH 45069
(614) 225-6959

At its 2018 Annual Awards Gala, the Ohio Minority Supplier Development Council (Ohio MSDC) will welcome keynote speaker Richard Montañez, a former Frito-Lay janitor, inventor of Flamin’ Hot® Cheetos®, motivational speaker, author and current PepsiCo executive. The gala will take place on Friday, Nov. 16 at the Savannah Center in West Chester, Ohio.

“This event is all about recognizing those who break through barriers for success and are advocates for diversity and inclusion,” said Jacqueline Neal, President and CEO, Ohio MSDC. “Richard Montañez is a perfect example of someone who has done just that. His story highlights the importance of diversity, innovation and entrepreneurship, so we’re thrilled that our members can learn from his insights.”

Despite beginning his career as a janitor at Frito-Lay’s Rancho Cucamonga plant, Montañez worked his way up the corporate ladder after introducing the then CEO, Roger Enrico, to a spicier Cheetos version inspired by traditional Mexican flavors. Today, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos are one of Frito-Lay’s most popular items, and have also influenced additional ethnic products. Richard frequently presents to Fortune 500 companies about the importance of diversity in business and recently sold the rights to his book “A Boy, A Burrito, and a Cookie” to Fox Searchlight for a film adaptation of his leadership journey.

In addition to Montañez’s speech, current NMSDC President and CEO, and former Diversity & Inclusion General Manager for Toyota Motor North America, Adrienne Trimble, will also speak at the gala. An Opening Reception featuring a silent auction and Post-Gala Reception will allow for networking, while an awards ceremony during dinner will recognize the outstanding achievements among Ohio’s Corporate Members and MBEs.
