Gun Chronicles In America A Project By JR And Time - Cincinnati Event
February 18, 2019 - Cincinnati
21c Museum Hotels invites the communities in all eight of its locations to join an open discussion about gun ownership in America on Monday, February 18.
Award-winning artist JR and TIME Magazine have
created a video mural with interviews from people with wide-ranging opinions
and experiences with guns, gun violence, and second amendment rights. JR’s
video mural will be on view and will serve as the starting point for the
discussions. The audio and videos in JR’s mural represent a diverse
spectrum of voices and stories within an often volatile and complex issue.
This is not a discussion about policy or politics,
but an opportunity for attendees to listen and share personal experiences and
feelings about guns in America, in a safe, honest, and open environment. The
event is free and open to the public.
“At 21c, we believe that one of the primary
functions of art is to inspire dialog about today’s most pressing issues,” says
Museum Director, Chief Curator Alice Gray Stites. “Art can provide a platform
for exploring the challenges we face in our communities, our nation, and our
world. Connecting with others through art like JR’s, which is inclusive,
thoughtful, and thought-provoking at once, offers opportunities to nurture
meaningful civic engagement. As a multi-venue museum, 21c is pleased that these
important exchanges will take place simultaneously in all eight American cities
we call home. We hope many people will come share their thoughts on guns, gun
ownership, Constitutional rights, and more on Presidents Day 2019.”
