Night is the time for stories. And this is the story of stories -- the story of a thousand and one nights.

Travel to the Middle East as Mars Hill Academy enacts Scheherazade's tales of love, comedy, and dreams with a modern adaptation of The Arabian Nights.

The gifted storyteller sets out to end King Shah Rayar’s cycle of violence in the unlikeliest of ways. For years, the king has taken a new bride each night and had her executed the following morning. But this time Scheherazade volunteers to marry the tyrant. With the executioner’s sword hanging over her neck, Scheherazade must captivate her husband with spellbinding narratives in order save her life and the kingdom.

“A beautiful world full of movement, music, vibrant colors, luxurious fabrics, and puppetry will emerge as Scheherazade’s stories unfold on stage,” said Lyn Cunningham, director for the show and MHA teacher. “Audiences will be transported to another time and place where the young Scheherazade weaves a new story every night to postpone her death sentence.”

This adaptation offers a wonderful blend of timeless heroes and villains -- like Ali Baba, Aladdin, and Sinbad -- with lesser-known tales from Arabian Nights in a collection of plays within a play.

The cast will offer four family-friendly shows March 21-23 with performances at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. -- all at the Fitton Center for Performing Arts in Hamilton. Tickets are $14 for general reserved and $18 for premium reserved seating. Audiences will enjoy discounted prices Thursday with $12 general reserved and $15 premium reserved seats.
