Joshua Hall Bates: First Person Program Series - Cincinnati Event

Heritage Village Museum will be kicking off 2019 with the First Person Program Series running from February 7 through March 27. Come to the Village and learn about notable people of the past from the presenters! Each program begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes dessert

Some heroes served only on the home front. Joshua Hall Bates graduated from West Point, served for 5 years in our army, then resigned and began a legal career. He served Ohio during the Civil War as a General training troops, advising the Governor and later in the state Senate. Interesting stories come from his command of both Camps Harrison and Dennison both near Cincinnati. As a Militia General, he guided preparations for Ohio’s contribution to the effort and was a leader in protecting the area during the war. He had a local fortification named after him that still survives and after a long productive life was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. His story provides an outline to what happened to Cincinnati during the war.

Besides General Bates, presenter Bernie O’Bryan has brought several other historical figures to life for Sharon Woods Historical Village including General Lew (Ben-Hur) Wallace, Stovepipe Johnson and Congressman George Hunt Pendleton.
